I’ve never met someone who chooses not to make promises and yet is the least likely to break someone’s heart. We sometimes associate promises with assurance and comfort but we forget that these things are attached to promises and no matter what the romantic movies tell us, promises, one way or another, end up with an expiration date.

I’ve never met that someone until now. As shallow as it sounds, girls do wait for assurance and our insecurities thrive on it. It becomes our own shield or blanket of safety, but was never meant to be in the first place. Words will never suffice being our rope to hang on to at the edge of a cliff nor will it compare to the actual human being and his actions.

No promises are needed in any relationship. Vows are proclamations of love, but promises are nothing but words and bullets that you must dodge. And just like bullets, no matter what the accuracy of your shot is, if the wind doesn’t cooperate or you blinked one too many times before you pulled the trigger, a stray can hurt as bad as a clean shot.

No promises. Do what you’re supposed to do. You don’t need to bring their hopes up. You just have to do what she expects you to promise her. Actions will forever speak louder than words.
